Intensive police investigations have led to the arrests of four people in Mitchells Plain within hours of a near-fatal robbery and hijacking of a taxi driver 40km away in central Cape Town.
Police spokesperson Randall Stoffels said the four, one of them a 15-year-old, would appear in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Thursday or Friday.
The taxi driver, 23, from Khayelitsha, was shot in the stomach and robbed at a Sir Lowry Road petrol station opposite the Good Hope Centre on Tuesday night. The robbers got away in his taxi.
On Wednesday, the driver remained in a stable condition in hospital.
Stoffels said police had followed leads that led them to the hijacked vehicle in Eastridge, Mitchells Plain. The four were arrested soon after.
The 15-year-old is to appear in court on Thursday and the others on Thursday or Friday. – Staff Writer
