[Pretoria, November 20] – African National Congress Women’s League
president Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, 64, is expected to appear in the
Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on Tuesday on fraud charges.
She was arrested in October and released on bail of R5000 after
appearing at the same court.
Madikizela-Mandela faces 60 charges of fraud involving R930 000 and 25
of theft of about R10 000, investigators said in October.
Madikizela-Mandela is accused number two in an alleged scam involving
the use of her signature to fraudulently obtain bank loans.
Her co-accused, Addy Moolman, is currently in custody and his case
would be heard on Tuesday. He handed himself over to police in June.
Moolman, a broker, allegedly obtained personal loans for fictitious
Women’s League employees from Saambou Bank using Madikizela-Mandela’s name
and letterheads.
