Chinese Government Finances Construction of Hospital in Luanda

A provincial hospital worth eight million US dollars, with the capacity of attending 800 patients per day, started being built today at Kilamba Kiaxi district (Luanda), in a financing from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

With the capacity for a hundred beds, the future hospital will occupy an area of 800,000 square metres, inside a five acres land, and will have hospitalising, waiting and external consultation rooms, a morgue, lavaratories and a kitchen.

The two floored building, will also have areas reserved for the administration, dinning-hall, a maternity, rooms for specialised consultations, two surgery blocks, X-rays, car parks and a laundry.

The financing also includes equipping of the hospital with furniture and technical material.

The works, to last 15 months, are in charge of the Chinese civil construction firm, Overseas Engineering Society of China (COVEC), and counts with 90 percent of Angolan work force.

In the act of officially launching the first stone, the Coordinator of Luanda’s Administrative Commission, Higino Carneiro, appealed to COVEC for a study of viabilities to increase the hospitalisation rooms to 300 beds.

According to the Coordinator, these kinds of hospitals are very important to residents of the capital and the conclusion of the project will increase the capacity of medical and medicine assistance.

On his turn, the Ambassador of China to Angola, Zhanga Beisan, said that his country’s Government will continue to help Angola, mainly in the sectors of housing, health and education.

The provincial hospital is being built in the surroundings of Camama cemetery.
