A hijack suspect was arrested in Durban’s Umbilo suburb on Wednesday following a shootout with security guards, police said.
Inspector Michael Read said a 39-year-old woman had been loading goods into her car TruFruit in Umbilo Road at 11am when three men held her at gunpoint, removed her jewellery, pushed her to the ground and took her vehicle.
There was an exchange of gunfire between security guards and the suspects as they fled the scene.
“Umbilo police then spotted the car on Sydney Road and gave chase. The stolen car crashed and one suspect was arrested at the scene,” said Read.
Police are presently searching for the two remaining gunmen.
The woman was not injured, said Read. – Sapa
