The Judicial Service Commission has asked Judge Nkola Motata to respond to allegations that he made racist remarks the night he crashed his vehicle.
This is regarding an incident last year when he allegedly said: “No boer is going to undermine me. This used to be the white man’s land, even if they have more land, South Africa is ours. We are ruling South Africa.”
The outburst was recorded by Richard Baird, the owner of the house whose wall the judge crashed into. The recordings were played in court during the judge’s drunk driving trial.
AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel on Tuesday said the JSC had informed them in a letter that an official request to Judge Motata to respond to the allegations had been made.
Neither the JSC nor Motata’s defence advocate, Bantubonke Tokota, were available to confirm this. – Botho Molosankwe
