Police rock the world of Cape Town revellers

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

The city’s winter clubbing scene is heating up, but police seem to be gate-crashing gigs.

Last Saturday, police stormed into a trance party being held at the Train Lodge on the Foreshore. Guests accused police of brutality after they were allegedly beaten and pepper-sprayed. Over 200 people then registered on Facebook and called on each other to lay charges at their nearest police station or with the Independent Complaints Directorate.

Reports indicated that police closed the party, which was attended by almost 1 000 people, around 2am.

‘It’s not very commercial. The beats are underground and people come for that’

One party-goer was reported to have ended up in hospital. Organisers had a valid temporary liquor licence, but two people were found with dagga and have appeared in court.

The police, in turn, said patrons had become “riotous” and they were forced to use pepper spray, adding that a police van had been damaged in the scuffles.

In March police were accused of brutality after raids at various Stellenbosch night spots. The ICD is still investigating charges against police after the raids at Bohemia, Die Mystic Boer and the Springbok Pub. Here, patrons were allegedly assaulted, and shots were fired into the ceilings. Internet footage of the raids was released.

Dikeledi Phiri of the ICD said they would know on Monday when the report on the Stellenbosch incident would be ready. She was not aware of the Train Lodge incident.

Yet the threat of a police clampdown is not deterring Cape Town’s party planners. And many take measures to ensure they have their fun within the confines of the law.

All implement strict age restrictions, and ensure that liquor regulations are complied with.

Last night, scores were expected to flock to the latest of the legendary Keep it Real parties. Over a decade after the parties first happened in Cape Town, they have consistently lived up to the promise of offering solid, underground house music.

Last night it was held in the Pasta Factory in Kloof Street. Some of the city’s finest house DJs, like Leighton Moody and Peter Abrahams, took the decks. Abrahams, also the event organiser, said the underground parties catered for “clubbers with a bit of soul”.

“It’s not very commercial. The beats are underground and people come for that; it always rocks.”

Yet they had also had a brush with law enforcement. A few years ago at a party in Wynberg, police raided just past midnight when the place “was peaking”. They reportedly acted after receiving complaints from neighbours, and the party was shut down.

Abrahams said he had raised the issue of alleged police interference with various roleplayers including the Cape Town Partnership. “Police are responding to noise complaints from ratepayers, and between 3am and 7am, statistics are high for hard crime. So it’s a tough situation.”

Keep it Real hosts its next party on August 3.

City party promoters, Global Breakthrough, is gearing up to present a set in August. The promoters are to host the after-party for the Darkie clothing line fashion show during Cape Town Fashion Week.

For the hip hop and R&B fans, the Biggy Duets completes its trilogy of parties on Friday at the Lambego Lounge in Lansdowne.

Even the Spanish party island, Ibiza, is being forced to toe the line. Local authorities say clubs must close between 6am and 10am.
