SA: Hostage drama at Tygerberg hospital

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

A “usually very calm” outpatient stormed the Tygerberg branch of the SA National Council for Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (Sanca) and held a social worker hostage for four hours after assaulting another employee on Wednesday.

Police negotiators rushed to the scene as anxious Sanca employees huddled outside the building, while the 36-year-old man held their colleague at knifepoint inside.

Shortly before 3pm, shouting could be heard from inside the building and moments later a police officer in camouflage gear walked out of the back of the building and gave a thumbs-up.

‘It was frantic’

About 10 minutes later the man was driven away in a police van.

A Sanca employee, who did not want to be named because she too traumatised, said the man, armed with a knife, entered the building about 11am.

“He took one of our social workers into the office. One of our colleagues realised what was happening and pulled the social worker out of the office and they ran out.

“But another social worker, who didn’t know what was happening, went into the office to calm the man and he held her at knifepoint.”

The social worker who managed to escape was cut on the arm as she was pulled away from the man.

“When the six counsellors, a secretary and clients in the building realised what was happening, we all ran outside. It was frantic. We don’t know what he wanted,” the employee said.

“He’s been one of the clients who’s been coming here for years, but sporadically. He’s usually very peaceful.”

When the Cape Times reached the scene, police negotiators were talking to the man, who could be seen briefly standing in front of a window.

Sanca employees standing outside the building hugged each other frequently. One of them wiped away tears.

Every few minutes officers in camouflage gear would enter the building with their hands on their firearms. Shortly before the suspect was bundled into a police van, a man could be heard shouting inside the building and the Sanca employees rushed to see what had happened.

Ambulances and police vehicles blocked the building entrance so that the woman who had been held hostage could not be seen leaving.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said the suspect had “certain demands” but he would not elaborate.
