A man and his family were robbed and beaten up in their home by twelve armed robbers on Saturday, Johannesburg police said.
Spokesperson Constable Patricia Simelane said the man from Doringrandgies in Erasmia was on his way home from an auction in Krugersdorp when he was followed by the robbers.
“The robbers confronted the man at his gate and forced him into his house where his wife and other family members were.”
“The robbers demanded cash. After they were given R25 000 they wanted more and started to beat the man and his wife,” she said.
According to police the family was seriously assaulted and are receiving treatment in hospital.
A VW Polo and a Ford Bantam bakkie was also taken.
All the robbers fled and police are investigating a case of house robbery. – Sapa
