‘Nel’s actions highlight problems in SA’

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

I thought I would make it through the better part of this year without making much noise about race or transformation.

Andre Nel certainly made his views on being dropped from the Proteas squad to tour India loud and clear, first with a threat to pull out of cricket and then with a brilliant performance on the field against Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Nel went on to miss the post match presentation and failed to pick up his man-of-the-match award.

Well done Andre, not only did you embarrass yourself but the rest of your team mates in the national team. That’s not to say that Nel should not have taken a stand for being excluded from the team on issues not cricket related, because he just wants to play for his country.

Unfortunately, I can’t see Nel setting a precedent that will be followed by other players, especially those that have been on the receiving end of transformation.

Maybe all the black and coloured players of rugby and cricket beyond school level should threaten to not play the next game for all the shabby treatment they have received over the past 10 years at the hands of racist coaches and administrators who have been hell-bent on keeping rugby and cricket the sport of choice for the white communities.

Thanks to Andre Nel I can say what has been bothering me for a while now. I’ve never been a fan of quotas or targets but rather a believer in allowing the process of change to occur naturally.

That way we will all see who the racists are and who the real agents for change in our country are. I have watched with disgust as a number of university teams participating in the Varsity Cup have fielded only the minimum requirement in terms of players of colour.

This is an issue I raised with the sponsors of the competition when I told them that we are past the stage where universities should be involved in the numbers game.

There has been enough talent coming out of school rugby in the past five years to ensure that there is a sufficient number of players of colour in all university teams.

And yet we do not see them.

A good example of the sadness of the situation can be seen in the Bulls touring team in the Super 14.

Stephan Dippenaar, a 19 year old centre and wing, made the team ahead of John Mametsa and I understand the reasoning behind it is that the Bulls are looking to the future as the kid can offer the Bulls options as a utility back.

So then why is a young guy like Bandisa Maku not in that touring squad? He has played prop and hooker before and has represented our junior national teams.

Maku, an up-and-coming player and potential future Springbok, should have been afforded the same opportunity as Dippenaar ahead of James van der Walt, who I believe is limited in terms of how far he can progress.

Thanks to Andre, maybe some coaches will take heed of an issue that has been the undoing of many black and coloured rugby and cricket players in this country.
