Two Durban policemen were arrested after allegedly assaulting a motorist and cocking a firearm at another person in two separate incidents, police said on Friday.
Captain Thembeka Luthuli said the incident involving the motorist took place on Pine Street on Thursday.
“He was driving his car along the street when he came across a hardbody vehicle parked in the middle of the street,” she said.
When the motorist questioned the two occupants of the vehicle, they allegedly alighted from the car and assaulted the motorist with the butt of a firearm.
When the victim was opening a case at the Point police station, he spotted his two assailants – who were officers.
Luthuli said another case had also been opened against the same officers two days earlier.
A female worker on Marine Parade, said Luthuli, had an altercation with two men who were drinking in public.
The worker told police the men verbally abused her and then pulled out a firearm and cocked it.
The woman ran off and while also opening a case at the police station, identified the same two officers as her assailants.
The officers were arrested on charges of assault to do grievous bodily harm, pointing a firearm and theft. – Sapa
