I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Three people have been killed following evictions at Seraleng near Rustenburg, police said on Friday.

Rustenburg police spokesperson Captain Elsabe Augoustides said two people were killed on Tuesday night and another person died at the Rustenburg Provincial hospital on Thursday night after he was severley assaulted in an incident relating to the evictions.

Six cases of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm were reported at the Boitekong police station on Friday, following a clash between Xhosa and Tswana speaking people on Thursday night.

One man had been arrested in connection with the assault, Augoustides said.

Local municipality said it would look into allocating houses to 326 people who were evicted

More then ten people were injured earlier on Friday in an ethnic clash, following the evictions.

The Rustenburg local municipality said it would look into allocating houses to 326 people who were evicted from the houses at Seraleng on Tuesday.

Mayor Matthew Wolmarans said the problem at Seraleng was caused by two conflicting court orders – one enforcing eviction and the other halting eviction.

Julius Melanzi, a councillor in charge of relocation, said Xhosa-speaking people attacked Tswana-speaking people on Thursday night after they were evicted from the local houses they had illegally occupied.

He said the Xhosa people re-occupied the houses and forced the legal occupants out, resulting in clashes that left more then 10 people injured.

Meanwhile Wolmarans said the municipality on Friday obtained a Supreme Court order enforcing the eviction of the Xhosa-speaking group.

He said, on humanitarian grounds, he would look into accommodating the 326 people who were evicted in other houses, if they were available – or else they would be given temporary shelters.

Wolmarans said the houses would be returned to the people who were entitled to live in them.

Patrick Makomola – representing the Xhosa-speaking group – said no one but his people were going to occupy the houses, because they had been allocated to them.

He said he was surprised to see people from Sunrise Park occupying the houses.

The Xhosa people had been renting back yard rooms “for a long time” and they were prepared “to die for the houses”, Makomola said.

Both the Tswana and the Xhosa vowed to occupy the houses “no matter what”.

Police kept the two groups apart while the mayor explained the situation to them on Friday afternoon.

“If they fail to obey the court order they will be arrested,” police said. – Sapa
