Gunmen shot dead a 55-year-old ANC councillor and wounded his wife at the couple’s northern KwaZulu-Natal home, police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said councillor Sipho Mdluli was having supper with his family at their Dukuduku home at 8.10pm on Tuesday.
“The family was sitting inside the garage eating when three gunmen approached,” he said.
Mdluli was shot ten times and died at the scene. His wife was taken to a local hospital with a bullet wound to her thigh.
Mngomezulu said: “We are not sure what the motive was but we do not think it was political.”
Police could not say whether any household items or belongings were taken. – Sapa
