So here comes the likes of the neo-Communist Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi siding with the likes of Syria to which Prodi is aligned with Italian Communists at home. This would certainly explain his pro-Communist leanings:

Rome, (SANA) – Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi on Wednesday underlined the necessity of Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan according to international relevant resolutions, pointing out to Syria’s active and constructive role in the Middle East.
Prodi stated in a press conference that the Golan is an occupied Syrian territory and should be restored to Syria, saying “this is the natural thing’, stressing the need to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
He added that the conference which the US called for in autumn should include a clear agenda with participation of all sides concerned in the peace process in the region.
