People with your antiquated, hysterical right wing views have no place in
South Africa. You see a conspiracy around every corner and your implication
that the Government is involved in farm murders borders on lunacy.
The ANC is a social democratic part that is doing its best to run the
country. Yes there is corruption, yes there is inexperience, yes there is a
lack of delivery and yes, there is mounting crime. But can you put this in
perspective? The country has huge socio-economic inequalities, which have
always existed… this is bound to create crime. I am not excusing it, and I
am saying that a better job need’s to be done here…but really, your
hysterical diatribes that lack any kind of perspective or analytical thought
do not help. Do you have anything to say about the ANC’s commitment to a
multiracial society, instead of selective quotes by junior, wayward
ministers? What about the ANC’s committment to a freemarket economy, which
has been managed fairly well. Inflation is the lowest in years. External debt
has been reduced from US20 billion to US4 billion. Exports are up. Growth
could be better, but is stable. What about our advanced constitution, bill of
rights and legal system???
Really. things are not peachy or perfect. But the government is struggling to
create a succesful country and redress the imbalances of the past. Get some
perspective.
Jan, I read your intellectually suffocated piece “reply by a white African”.
I seriously considered not writing this, in case in prompted some kind of
hysterical outrage and suspension of rationality … which those in the right
wing wilderness frequently indulge in. Oh well, I can only try.
By the way, I am a white south african who has a university education and
unwittingly benefitted from Apartheid. I am also a DA voter.
And if you don’t like our country, then by all means emigrate. We don’t want
you.

Hi Mathew,
In reply to your post on my guestbook:-
>People with your antiquated, hysterical right wing views have no >place in
South Africa.
Thank you.
>You see a conspiracy around every corner and your implication that >the
Government is involved in farm murders borders on lunacy.
Well I suggest you pay more attention to the news and find out more about
farm murders, cash-in-transit heists and other things.
There is somebody out there offering people R1000 ($250) to kill farmers.
There is a video-tape which the police found which trains people how to
murder farmers. If you will look closely, you will see that the government
has little interest in solving crime or in attending to farm murders, which,
fall just short of 1,200 since 1994. People in the rest of the world are
referring to this as Ethnic Cleansing.
Clearly you cannot see how Mbeki condones and supports what Mugabe is doing
and turns a blind eye to Mugabe. Clearly you do not see how crime increases
ad infinitum and how most whites who leave this country cite CRIME as their
reason for leaving. Has it ever occurred to you that these people actually
want whites to leave?
I’d like to remind you that I come from Zimbabwe, and that in the beginning,
Mugabe gave mixed signals JUST LIKE MANDELA AND MBEKI DID. Sometimes he’d
say: If you don’t like it here – get out. Other times he’d say “Oh you can
stay we need you…” but he did it in a very half-hearted way. Mandela said
once that “unpatriotic whites” are the ones who flee the country. Mbeki
prefers to bring in Cubans, Russians, Indians and Eastern Europeans while
letting the whites from here leave.
Take a good hard look. These people say one thing but do another. Mbeki
clamps down on crime statistics for a year. Instead of putting more police on
the streets he hires 3,000 people to COUNT CRIME DIFFERENTLY. The fudged
figures come out and the other day I saw a news report saying: Crime is
looking better!!! Duh!!!
>The ANC is a social democratic part that is doing its best to run the
Let’s stop RIGHT THERE PAL. I remember, back in 1985, after Mugabe had been
in power for 4 years, Europeans saying: Oh you whites were wrong about
Mugabe, HE IS A SOCIAL DEMOCRAT NO DIFFERENT TO ANYONE IN EUROPE. Mr Social
Democrat Mugabe, is currently running the whites out of his country. I
suggest that you keep that in mind as you look up to the Social Democrat ANC
who are best buddies and best pals with the SACP and whose COSATU buddies are
currently running around striking and bringing the country to a halt. What’s
this I see? A slogan by COSATU which read: “Socialism is the answer,
privatisation is a disaster.”
I’ve spoken to blacks who used to be in the ANC and who are now members of
the DA, a party which you support, and guess what? They refer to the ANC as
communists… One such black person who is a member of the DA, told me that
if the SACP (South African communist Party) were to register for elections
tomorrow, that it would win because the blacks in the townships believe in
SOCIALISM and they believe the SACP is more sympathetic to their cause than
the ANC.
>country. Yes there is corruption, yes there is inexperience, yes >there is a
lack of delivery and yes, there is mounting crime. But can
So we agree, the country is going down…
>you put this in perspective? The country has huge socio-economic
>inequalities, which have always existed… this is bound to create >crime. I
am not excusing it, and I am saying that a better job need’s
I think that excuse is running thin. You see, in Zimbabwe, they used similar
excuses. What you do not seem to realise is that this is what, 8 years after
the ANC took over? And they’re still finding EXCUSES for lack of performance.
Mugabe was doing the same thing. Indeed, he’s been in total control for 20
years and he’s still blaming the whites, still blaming colonialism, etc, etc.
You see, the key issue here is that WE ARE THE SCAPEGOATS – FOREVER. We will
be the scapegoats even 10 years from now.
>to be done here…but really, your hysterical diatribes that lack any >kind

Thanks for the insult but I think you’re wrong. I know more than you think I
do. Too bad you won’t listen.
>anything to say about the ANC’s commitment to a multiracial
Good thing you brought up here because I want to say that Mugabe, like the
ANC (and remember, they are best pals, and last year, our wonderful
President, Mbeki, opened the Bulawayo Trade Fair and praised Mr Mugabe a lot
saying how much he had learnt from Mugabe…) – you see, they PRETEND to be
Liberal Democrats and the PRETEND to want a multiracial society and they
PRETEND to be Westernised when in fact, none of the above are true. You see,
they know that for them, they can only remain in power if whites are the
enemy, colonialism and Apartheid are resurrected, and a dead horse is flogged
all the time. They have to make the blacks unite against a “common enemy.”
You and me – we’re the “common enemy.” They have no interest in a multiracial
society. Watch them closely. In many ways, they wish we whites would just
leave because we’re a nuisance. We oppose their socialism, etc and they tire
of that.
>society, instead of selective quotes by junior, wayward ministers?
So you’re saying the ANC Secretary General’s anti-capitalist remarks are just
“wayward” remarks. Funny. People always make excuses for these guys. I
remember last year in June, Mugabe saying: We’ll drive white businesses out
of the country. Apologists said that he was just joking and electioneering.
Then his people began doing that a few months back.
If you had more experience of history you would learn that these people do
not joke. You pretend that they are morons who do not understand the english
language. You’re wrong. They have more university degrees than you or I. They
know english and they know what they’re saying.
>What about the ANC’s committment to a freemarket economy,
It does it with a certain reluctance. American and foreign businessmen who
want to invest huge amounts in SA complain to Mbeki year after year about
crime. Each year Mbeki turns a deaf ear to them. Understand, these people are
not sincere. They can spend R76 million on a conference on racism, but they
won’t spend it on police. They will hire 3,000 data capturers while reducing
the size of South Africa’s Police force from 142,000 to 100,000 in the last
few years. Understand, the speak with forked tongues, and they are insincere
to their electorate, to us whites and to foreigners. They say one thing but
do another. But, these same people are quick to push taxes sky high and they
collect probably R40 billion more in taxes than the former govt ever did. The
key issue here is to understand that they are not sincere. Watch what they do
versus what they say.
>which has been managed fairly well. Inflation is the lowest in years.
Mainly because business is dying.
>External debt has been reduced from US20 billion to US4 billion.
>Exports are up. Growth could be better, but is stable. What about
Exports are up because our currency has dropped to hell. That’s why. No
mystery there. The crucial issue is why do they not open the flood-gate for
US and European investment. We could have billions upon billions pouring and
flooding into this country. But its not happening. Foreign investors struggle
to invest here. The ANC, while paying lip-service to foreign investment
actually is quietly discouraging it. Do some homework. See next point.
>ur advanced constitution, bill of rights and legal system???
Our “advanced” (meaning socialist/Marxist/communist system), is so “advanced”
that foreign businessmen cannot invest in SA because they say our labour laws
are the toughest and most unreasonable in the world. Our labour laws are so
harsh that foreigners don’t dare put money in here because they will be tied
up to their eyeballs in labour laws. We’re not so “advanced”. We’re just
doing the Socialist/Marxist thing which is to emphasise: labour, labour,
labour, strikes, strikes, strikes. Just tonight, I heard COSATU say they HOPE
to have a GENERAL STRIKE across the board in the first half of next year. Oh
wonders! And what have we just had? A huge strike which brought the motor
industry to a grinding halt, caused lost contracts across the board, etc,
etc. Strikes, stayways, laziness, laws up to your eyeballs. You know what –
why do we in this country even bother to work? How can this country move
FORWARD if everyone sits on their butts. Have you ever heard the ANC tell
people: Work, work harder, work faster, work will result in progress? Never.
Because they are socialists who have no interest in wealth or progress
neither for the blacks nor the whites nor anyone. They are here to flog a
horse called CAPITALISM. The ANC has no interest in capitalism. That is why
we in this, the most advanced country in Africa, are heading toward becoming
a banana republic. Europeans, Americans and Asians WORK FOR A LIVING. You
will never hear the ANC tell anyone to work.
>Really. things are not peachy or perfect. But the government is >struggling
to create a succesful country and redress the imbalances >of the past. Get
some perspective.
I think not. I think the government is entrenching itself. In 1999, Winnie
Mandela said at an election rally “the ANC will rule South Africa forever.”
One of Mugabe’s ministers once said that the reason he and the others
converted to communism was because the Russians told them: “With this system
you get to stay in power FOREVER.” That’s what the game is. The ANC is
playing a big chess game. The ANC, like Mugabe, can stay in power, FOREVER,
simply by blaming all failures on the past, on whites, on the capitalist
system, etc, etc. These people are masters of the art of shifting the blame
and never taking responsibility even though they have all the power in the
palm of their hands. Watch them. You’ll see I’m right.
>Jan, I read your intellectually suffocated piece “reply by a white
>African”. I seriously considered not writing this, in case in >prompted some

Was my response as hysterical as you expected?
>By the way, I am a white south african who has a university >education and
unwittingly benefitted from Apartheid. I am also a >DA voter.
DA – ah yes, I spoke to them. I spoke to some prominent blacks in them. Yeah,
the DA thinks its going to beat the ANC in 2 elections. I wish them luck. I
say the ANC will destroy the DA. The guy who proof-read my book is a good
buddy of mine, a Jewish liberal and firm DA supporter. We’ve had these chats
plenty of times. Like you, he doesn’t want to listen. But we debate. I keep
telling him: Watch Zimbabwe – what’s happened there is coming here… You
wait and see. The ANC backs Mugabe. The ANC has to keep up pretences.
>And if you don’t like our country, then by all means emigrate. We >don’t
want you.
Not quite. First I want to give some people heat. Anyway, my experience in
South Africa has been that it is the liberals like you who run first and who
run the fastest. My liberal buddies and closest pals have been fleeing this
country since 1986. And they continue to run. Dozens of my friends have fled
this country. Before I run, I’m first gonna give some people some serious
heat. Maybe I’ll be lucky and they’ll throw me out free of charge. Then I can
ask for political asylum somewhere. Then I’ll make even more noise. Maybe
they’ll shoot me and put me out of my misery. That’s cool by me.
