SA: SPCA outraged by the cruel mass killing of pigs

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY ANNETTE RADEMEYER, SPOKESPERSON, KING WILLIAMS TOWN SPCA

SUBJECT: SPCA CALLS FOR DISMISSAL OF SAPS OFFICERS

We call on the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS and the MEC for Safety and Security for the immediate suspension and dismissal of police officers who manned the scene at a horrific accident where over 150 pigs were injured and killed when the truck that they were being transported on, overturned near Middledrift yesterday.

In all my years with SPCA, I have never heard of nor experienced such savagery as that which took place at this scene yesterday and I lay the blame squarely at the door of the SAPS.

The SPCA were shocked and horrified upon arrival at the scene to find that the police just stood around and refused to do anything – despite requests for help. They did absolutely no crowd control, resulting in the crowd that had gathered, storming the vehicle and grabbing and dragging live and injured pigs off to vehicles and, in about 20 cases, butchering the animals alive. Animals were gutted while they were alive, they were stabbed and their hind quarters hacked at – it is the most horrific savagery the SPCA has ever experienced. SPCA staff were nearly stabbed twice, trying to prevent people from stabbing and butchering the already suffering and stressed animals and the police, who are sworn to uphold the law, stood by and did NOTHING.

47 Pigs had to be euthanased by the SPCA and at least 30 died in the accident. These were the lucky ones. The rest where rounded up and carted off in bakkies, vehicles and police vans. I spoke to the Inspector in charge and requested urgent crowd control again. He responded by getting into his vehicle and driving off. I called the KWT Police Station for backup which never arrived. Some of the police on the scene reeked of alcohol. The SAPS did absolutely nothing to assist the SPCA or to secure the scene – despite numerous requests.

Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse, some members of the police deliberately removed numberplates from their official vehicles and loaded animals in the vans to steal them. This is clear and premeditated intent to commit crime and we are going to insist that these policemen be arrested and prosecuted. The SPCA has a total of 6 registration numbers including one police van from the Middledrift police station and these people will be charged with stock theft, defeating the ends of justice, interfering with an officer of the law (SPCA) as well as charges under the Animals Protection Act. We will also call for the dismissal of the SAPS members involved.

It is shocking that people can be so savage and barbaric and even more shocking that those who are paid to uphold the law, break it with impunity and do nothing to protect property or assist when called upon, by a fellow emergency service to do so.

With the world cup 2010 being just around the corner, we would discourage tourists in the strongest possible terms from coming to this country because the police will do absolutely nothing to protect them should they need such protection. Chances are that they will probably be robbed by those very same policemen who are supposed to uphold the law. This is undoubtedly the most shocking case I have ever encountered in my 15 years with the SPCA. There must be repercussions for those involved in this barbaric savagery.

Not one pig was saved. Every single animal was either savagely and brutally killed or stolen by the mob and the police – at one point SPCA staff managed to herd about 30 pigs into a huddle and asked the police for a hand to keep them safe while they were euthanasing those that needed to be euthanased. The police did nothing to protect these animals and stood by and watched them being stolen. This is simply unacceptable.

One animal had a broken leg and was going to be euthanased by SPCA staff but before officials could get there, a member of the public was stabbing the pig repeatedly in an attempt “to find it's heart” even when an SPCA officer tried to stop him. In another incident, an injured animal was gutted while it was alive. Such savagery has no place in our society.

We trust that the Commissioner will act swiftly in this case. We will be using all avenues open to us including bringing this case to the international media's attention.
