A Danville pensioner accused of murdering his tenant’s husband in a jealous rage earlier this year did not appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Tuesday as he was ill.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Paul Machiel Prinsloo, 63, but will be kept over until August 15 when he has to appear in court again.
It was not clear if Prinsloo has in the meantime been sent to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital for mental observation.
Prinsloo was earlier granted bail of R2 000 after a probation officer stated his health was “very bad”. It is believed that he suffers from high blood pressure and has been hospitalised three times for heart failure. He is also on daily medication for diabetes.
He was arrested on January 5 this year after he allegedly shot Hennie Kruger in a jealous rage. Kruger and his wife, Ans, had been renting a room in Prinsloo’s Danville house for the previous six months.
It appears that the accused, who walks with difficulty, “ordered” Ans to go to his bedroom that night.
Her husband became angry and Prinsloo allegedly shot him in the chest with a sawn-off shotgun. – Sapa
