A 25-year-old police constable was arrested for murder after a man was shot dead in Rustenburg, North West police said on Monday.
Captain Elsabe Augustides said the constable pulled up behind a group of people walking along Byron street in Rustenburg North at about 8pm on Sunday.
An argument ensued between one of four men in the vehicle and one of the men who was on foot, Dawie Isaac Methe, 27.
During the argument, the police constable got out of the BMW and allegedly shot Methe in the head. The motive for the shooting was unknown.
The constable was arrested and his 9mm police was confiscated. He remained in police custody on Monday.
He was due to appear in the Rustenburg magistrate’s court soon.
