About 10 men escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after they robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle in Birch acres on the East Rand on Monday, Gauteng police said.
Inspector Juanita Kilian said a Fidelity van was pushed off the road near an Engen garage by three vehicles.
Men then got out of the cars and started shooting at the van, with the security guards inside.
The robbers forced open the door of the van and fled with two money boxes.
The security guards were not injured but were treated for shock on the scene.
Police were investigating cases of attempted murder and armed robbery. – Sapa
