A Polokwane resident allegedly shot and killed a burglar early on Sunday morning, Limpopo police said.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Mhale Rametseba said the burglar, who was accompanied by an unknown accomplice, broke into a house in Bendor, waking up the owner.
“When the owner approached the men, they started wielding a knife toward him, and he shot at one of the suspects,” said Rametseba.
The burglar died on the spot while his accomplice fled on foot. Police were then alerted and followed the accomplice but did not catch him.
Cases of murder and attempted murder had been opened.
Rametseba said the director for public prosecutions would decide what should happen to the owner.
