I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Vigilant cops managed to arrest the suspected ringleader of a gang of brazen armed robbers after a dramatic shootout on the N2 near Nandi Drive on Monday.
Shortly before the arrest of their alleged leader, a gang of four armed men stormed into two companies on Umhlangane Road in Avoca, assaulting and robbing employees and patrons of cash, jewellery and cellphones.
The men then drove off in a white Citi Golf and as they reached Nandi Drive, they crashed into another vehicle.
‘I saw him shooting at police with my own eyes,” said the witness’ |
A police source told the Daily News that the men then got out of their vehicle and attempted to hijack the driver of a Corsa bakkie.
“A metro police officer passing by noticed there was a hijacking in progress and called for back up. When the suspects saw the officer, they ran down into a bush near the Umhlangane River. When we arrived at the scene, members of the public showed us where the suspects were hiding.”
As the police made their way towards the suspects, the latter began firing at them while hiding in the bush.
“When we spotted the suspects, we shouted to them to surrender, but they didn’t. The ringleader then stood up and started firing at us again.
“That’s when we returned fire, but he continued to stand up and shoot at us. He was then injured in his left arm and we managed to apprehend him,” said the police officer.
He said that the other three suspects are believed to have fled into a tunnel that runs underneath the road. He added that the suspect was positively identified by employees of the companies as well as the driver they attempted to hijack.
Witnesses at the scene said that after the suspect was arrested, he continued to professed his innocence.
“He kept saying that he was innocent and that he had nothing to do with robberies and gun fire, but I saw him shooting at police with my own eyes,” said the witness.
The witness added that the “police were brilliant”.
The Flying Squad, Metro Police motorbike unit, Metro Police dog unit, Search and Rescue, the SAPS dog unit as well as personnel from Greenwood Park, Sydenham, KwaMashu and Phoenix stations attended the scene.
“Police responded timeously and had these robbers surrounded. It’s a pity three suspects escaped, but the police were excellent in arresting the main robber. I think they need to be commended for the work they did,” he said.
ER24 spokesperson Neil Noble who also witnessed the gun battle and the arrest said that police were quick to get information about the remaining suspects from the man they arrested.
“It would seem that he told them everything about the other suspects, where they live and their names,” he said.
Police have also linked the gang to another two armed robberies in the Greenwood Park area as the same white Citi Golf was used as a getaway vehicle. The first incident was at the Sasol Garage on the M25 and the second was at the Engen Garage on Rinaldo Road.
