Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos met Friday in Luanda visiting Russian Premier Mikhail Fradkov, hailing the bilateral relations.
“In fact, our two governments are working to adjust our relations to the new reality that emerged after the great transformations that occurred in the two countries and establish the best ways to consolidate the existing historic ties and identify new forms to develop them,” Dos Santos, who visited Russia later last year, was quoted by local media as saying.
During the premier’s visit, the two countries signed documents related to developing a hydroelectric plant in northeastern Angola and boosting farming and livestock production there.
Russia’s Alrosa, operating in northeastern Angola, is Angola’s biggest foreign investor in the diamond sector, accounting for some 60 percent of Angola’s diamond production. Angola is the world’s seventh largest diamond producer, ranking fourth in the world in terms of diamond profit.
