[I saw a headline that the Daily Mail & Guardian wrote a story about “life after Mugabe”. I must caution people once again, not to believe that Mugabe will be gone soon. Mugabe is not going down without a bitter fight and a long struggle. I was chatting to two people who were hard core MDC supporters in its early days. They were feeling somewhat down. I said to them that these are really the early days. The MDC was only formed in 1998. It took the ANC 30 years of war to win. And prior to that the ANC stood around for decades and achieved nothing. I do believe the MDC could win in half the time or less that it took the ANC to win, but that could be a period of 30 years! We’ve only seen the first 9! So people must just chill and sit back. There are a lot of struggles ahead. Mugabe is far from gone, and Zanu(PF) is still firmly (illegally!) in power. And it will be that way for a good many years. But the battle is heating up… a long struggle lies ahead. Jan] |
