Interpol’s Murder Rate for S.Africa almost 3 times that of the ANC?

[A Reader sent me this email: “You mention the Interpol stats frequently concerning SA, Where can I find these?” To be honest, I’ve never followed up on these. Perhaps Interpol has a website. The person who told me about these were Neil Watson/Juan Uys. In that one conversation we had he told me that according to Interpol’s murder rate, they were estimating the actual murders to be in the order of 48,000 per annum compared to the official Govt statistics of 18,000. I do not recall Neil/Juan telling me how he obtained it. I am under the impression he got it off a website. What he did say, as I recall, is that Interpol quotes the murders at a certain Rate Per Thousand people – so to get to the 48,000 you then multiply it by the country’s population of 45 million. I actually would appreciate it if someone could do some research and get back to me on this. I pretty much took Neil/Juan’s comments at face value and I do not think he lied to me. It would also be interesting to see what Interpol thinks of the rest of our crime. I really must put up those ANC Crime Graphs I’ve been promising for ages. I feel so ashamed of myself! Jan] |
