[Another kick-ass article from Jon Qwelane. A regular Indian reader of AfricanCrisis pointed me to this one – and you should hear HIM talk about this country, crime, Govt, etc! He spits on them and tells me that many of the people in his community are not impressed either.

Look at the way Jon points out that Govt officials “design” contracts for themselves and then they quickly become part of the group who “successfully tender” for them!

For years now I’ve been saying that the ANC’s slogan “A Better Life for All” is complete and utter BUNK! Glad to see a prominent black journalist saying the same thing!

But as my Indian reader points out – the problem in this country is that the MASSES (who have the voting power) are IGNORANT.

The cynic in me, absolutely disgusted by the insatiably satanic greed of some ANC members – whose greed translates into wide scale corruption at all levels of government – says there are at least two areas which should have been noticed early on as clear indicators of this government’s true intentions.

One was the patently false slogan “A better life for all”. In my cynical mind, helped along by Thabo Mbeki’s spokesperson Smuts Ngonyama who, after he was exposed as a beneficiary of up to R100m for doing sweet bugger-all except ‘facilitate’ meetings of fat cats, retorted with shameless arrogance: “I did not join the struggle to be poor.”

The inherently corrupt ANC elite have rewritten the slogan: “An affluent life for us, the ruling crowd, and our lackeys.”

The other pointer – with apologies to cartoonist ‘Andy’ Anderson, whose 1980s drawing of the corrupt Nats is equally apt for the ANC – is why the ruling party was adamant to include Die Stem in the national anthem. In their utterly unspeakable world of undeserved opulence, which is in fact legalised theft, they might as well sing “Jy vir ons, Suid Afrika” (Translation: “You for us, South Africa) as they pick their long fangs with the emaciated bones of the poorest of the poor, while planning yet more devious swindles of the national coffers again and again, big-time.

This has to be the most corrupt gang ever to run this country, even outdoing the Nats, while constantly claiming, very sanctimoniously but falsely, to be ‘redressing past wrongs’. If this pilfering and grand larceny are indeed redressing past wrongs, then give me back the past immediately, and let the true struggle begin afresh.

It all recalls a bit of sagacity one old man once gave me in Orlando East during the ‘total onslaught’ and all its evil ramifications. Said that old sage, much older and wiser than I will most likely never be: “Just make sure that when you chaps open the front door to let Satan out, you don’t allow the Devil in through the back door.”

How very true and prophetic his counsel has been! Hindsight is always a perfect science, though I am afraid it may just be too late to swing things around now.

Smelling a rat

The thieving and pillaging are out of control, and the noble principles which once firmly underpinned the struggle against injustice have been shamelessly sold out by this greedy crowd; clearly many of them were never really sincere in their so-called ‘commitment’.

The sound ideals of Albert Lutuli, Oliver Tambo and Nelson Mandela have all been completely buried in the feeding trough beneath the muck of the grunting swine.

Can anybody tell me why people who are already rich beyond their wildest dreams were suddenly and very stealthily handed one more Alladin’s lamp – the seven-year contract to run the multi-billion rand national lottery?

And don’t you smell another grotesquely obese rat in the multibillion rand Gautrain tender, which was also slipped in by stealth and has some cabinet ministers and their juniors in national and provincial government as being among the chief beneficiaries? I do; I most certainly do.

Someone designed a contract for bidders to tender for the installation of computer technology in local fighter aircrafts and helicopters, and suddenly resigned his plum job – immediately to resurface as the leading bidder and winner of the multibillion rand contract.

It echoed a similar scenario where someone else designed a tender for the second fixed-line telephone operator, and resigned his cushy job – just in time to bid successfully with his cronies, simultaneously raking in billions of rands on the side, (due to the gross abuse of pensioners’ money) to oil the round and fat bums of the cliquey set.

Won’t or can’t people see through this whole smelly line of corruption and act on it?
