Not content with preventing BNP members from becoming police constables or prison officers Phillips is calling on local government employers to take action against council staff employees who are BNP members. Mr. Phillips, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, asked at his organisation’s Race Convention in London today: Surely the time has come to question whether BNP members can truly carry out the role of public servant? With hallmark arrogance Phillips, son of Guyanese immigrants and a former London Assembly member for the Labour Party said he did not believe it was possible to reconcile BNP membership with a commitment to serve all members of the public. Trevor Phillips latest outburst can be seen for what it really is – a further desperate bid to stifle the rapidly growth of the British National Party. It is a blatant attempt to force BNP members to make a choice between working for a living in the public sector and being active in the only political party which will put the interests of the long suffering native British majority at the top of the political agenda. Fast-track recruitment He also called for new powers to fast-track the recruitment of ethnic minorities in public workforces. We have to consider whether, when there is a clear public need, we must allow our institutions, even if only temporarily, to take special measures with the aim of integrating their workforces faster than would otherwise be the case, he said. Some areas of employment will never stop being all-white without new kinds of positive action. Quite how Phillips, who will next year become chair of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, will square the circle of his new responsibilities remains to be seen. The message will be driven home in 2007 that BNP members have human rights as well and that attempts to remove our rights to employment in all sectors; public and private will not go unchallenged. You can see how the only party who is trying to react is under attack. |
