I’ve noticed that many of the people sending me SMS donations are women – especially Afrikaans women!

I would like to thank them for their support. Its so kind of you – and deeply appreciated from me. I don’t know if some of you are in a woman’s club… but I’d like to thank you all.

I am going to take the monies I get, and slowly accumulate it into a little pool and make it earn interest. Slowly I’ll build up my fund to finance future projects. I have already started quietly, with money from my book sales and other donations.

You will recall that I originally ploughed virtually every last cent of my savings into my book, Government by Deception, some years ago. My S.African print run cost me then, R72,000 and my US print run cost me about $5,500. That wiped me out and I’ve been slowly taking the money from my various sales of my book, my newsletter, etc – and I use none of it – I do some accounting and I keep track of the monies because I want to recover all the above capital plus some profits. Then when I’ve done that, I’ll see what project I can tackle next with it. I don’t even use the monies for my normal running costs… I pay all that out of my own pocket. Currently, I’m running 3 websites related to AfricanCrisis (i.e. Straight Talk and the mirror at www.AfricanCrisis.co.za – which will still come online).

I put my money where my mouth is, and have done so for years. I did not ask other people to fund me. I took all my own savings, and ploughed it in to this project from day one, despite me getting virtually no returns and despite officialdom boycotting my book and trying to DESTROY any chance I had of any financial success. I continued on DESPITE very low sales and despite an unofficial and TOTAL BAN against me inside S.Africa! Despite that… my site has grown and my message has spread far and wide… and now has reached the point where it is unstoppable even if they put a bullet in my head or poison me. They tried to crush my message – and they failed. Now my message will live long after I’ve gone.

Instead, I take monies people give me, along with sales, in order to build a capital fund for future projects and future use. I’m not a rash person who wastes money. I take care of every cent I’ve been given. I’m frugal (you should see the old car I drive!). In fact, I’m pedantic to the point where if need be, I could even return donated money to people if they wanted! I operate on a shoe-string budget and can do things others can’t! I don’t just spend money. I try to use volunteer services from others for free (which in a way is their DONATION to this site).

If I get enough money, and I start generating an actual regular income from AfricanCrisis, then I’ll look at OFFICIALLY turning it into a Section 21 company – but currently – the income from my website (which is about R200 per month or LESS) – is not enough for this. So I don’t want to waste it on a Section 21 company and the costs of keeping it going. But if the monies become more substantial and it makes financial sense, then I’ll do that.

Note: Nobody pays for adverts on AfricanCrisis yet. I was thinking of voluntary advertising where people pay me anything – a few Rands, even a few CENTS for some advertising space… as time goes by… and my site’s volumes increase… hopefully people will get more financial and business benefit from supporting AfricanCrisis.

I’m a believer in capitalism and in people getting benefits where possible. As the site grows… when we hit certain volumes… we should find all manner of things suddenly becoming financially viable.

Given the support of the nice ladies, maybe I should do a trial run – an experiment of selling airtime from AfricanCrisis and charging for SMS’s at 35c an SMS as an experiment… so that you get a benefit and I get a benefit… and I make 10c on each SMS you send…

Hmmm… I was wondering… what if I used SMS’s as an ADVERT. How about this? You get SMS’s at 35c and SMS as normal OR you have the option to get SMS’s at 30c an SMS (I make 5c) BUT… I will programatically add these words to each SMS: “Sent from www.AfricanCrisis.org SMS service” – that way… your SMS’s are also an ADVERT FOR ME… plus you save another 5c? How’s that??? Shall we try that? That way I help you, you help me… and we all benefit hey?

I also have a vision – a long term one – of building up a “Fund for the Worst-case Scenario” – to be used by me, at my discretion in a worst-case scenario. Now some of you may say that Jan would use such a fund to buy a plane ticket and will make a run for it to save his sorry ass one day… and you’re welcome to think that and you’re welcome to tell everyone that if you wish. I’m not going to argue the point with you.

But regardless of what you may think/expect/tell everyone, I will tell you that I have my own plans, which are known only to me, and which will remain only with me of what exactly I would do in an absolute WORST-CASE SCENARIO! Jan.
