MH, USA Independent Florida Candidate For U.S. Senate Visits Cuba Havana, Cuba (AHN) – Independent Florida candidate, Brian Moore, went to Cuba on Monday to highlight his opposition to U.S. trade sanctions against the communist regime. This comes after he was edged out of a place in one of two Florida Senate seats, contested by Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican Katherine Harris. Moore told the AP after arriving in Havana for a four-day visit, “Rather than sit around and mope and whine, I decided to come here instead… I’d like to highlight my opposition to the embargo.” Moore reiterated that he traveled to the island state legally on a U.S. license. He is one among four independent candidates contesting for the Florida seats. Moore is insistent on his stand that the U.S. sanctions on Fidel Castro’s Cuba 40 years ago, challenges the rights of Americans who wish to visit and do business in Cuba. The candidate calls himself a “progressive peace activist,” and is against the Iraq war as well as oil drilling off the coastline of Florida. Moore,63, is an executive health care recruiter and is a resident of Spring Hill, Florida. Florida’s Green Party has claimed to support Brian Moore in the November 7 election.
