[I was not sure if I should have believed this at first, but it is true. Caxton Publishers publish lots of small newspapers for many suburbs. They have declared today GATVOL (fedup) day. It is an anti-crime thing. So I hope people will spread it around and support them. The whole anti-crime business seems to be getting support from some in the media. Caxton’s move comes as something of an unexpected and pleasant surprise, but YOU/HUISGENOOT magazine, the biggest in the country is also busy with an anti-crime drive. So it appears to me, everyone is jumping on the anti-crime bandwagon now. I want to see what they can achieve. I don’t believe the Govt cares too much, though Mbeki might want to be seen to be a bit moderate. But I think, if Zuma or even the 2009 elections, that the Govt will drive the focus elsewhere. Blacks will be stealing with official backing… rather than UNOFFICIALLY as they are doing now. It will of course have nice names like “redistribution” and “transformation” but it will theft – LEGAL THEFT – backed by Govt Laws and the Police! But hey… that’s Africa… It should not surprise anyone. Jan]
