[One of our regular readers in Moscow sent this series of photos. They don’t show the actual shooting but there was an outcry about this. I will bet there was only an outcry because it made it on to TV. I wouldn’t be surprised to know of many who are shot where there is no evidence of this.

Now, I’m no friend of the Russians, but to my mind, this is the way you do deal with guerillas if you’re serious about winning.

If you look at that video of American forces in Baghdad, where the Iraqis don’t have the slightest fear of the American troops – then you can see that America stands no chance of winning. The Russians may be brutal, and they were even more brutal in Afghanistan, but frankly, when it comes to fighting for something important, brutality is indeed necessary.

Politics and War are opposite sides of the same coin. Politics is what you use when you get along with people. War is the opposite. Its what you use when you don’t get along with people. The one requires kindness and friendship, the other requires fear. Jan]
