S.Africa: A Black buddy of mine buys a Zulu Wife… for $3,500

I had a chuckle. A black guy I know, whose a Shangaan, said to me that he went to KwaZulu Natal on the weekend to negotiate his lobola (dowry) for his wife. He’s marrying a Zulu girl. So I teased him and asked him what his downpayment was on his wife and what the monthly terms repayment terms would be? Lobola is normally paid in cattle.

Here is his reply:-
“They want 11 cows, however only 8 were for lobola. 2 were at R3,500 each and 6 were at R3,000 each. So the Total Amount for lobola was R25,000. Zulu™s are expensive my friend, however it was nice there. We did enjoy ourselves; I should take you with me when I go there to pay the balance.”

I laughed at his comments below that she’d better take care of him. Now that’s what I call commitment! :-
“Yes she is a Zulu. I pay R18 000 and have to pay the balance before getting married. She have to take care of me, I have pay lot for her.”
