[This is the fun side of Africa. Take note of the story of the woman who gave birth to an “old man”. Jan] Giyani – A teenager tried to fool hospital staff into believing that a baby was living inside him. The 16-year-old boy was awaiting trial at Giyani police station last week when he was taken to Khensani hospital because he had a stomachache. According to reports, the teenager opened his mouth wide and a baby’s voice asked nurses not to give him pills and to tell the police to release him and the teenager. According to provincial health and social services spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, the voice said: “I am very hungry, I feel cold. We don’t want to go back to the cell because the other prisoners will beat us.” Seloba said the teenager was sent for an x-ray but that no child was found inside his belly. “We later discovered that the young man is just very talented, and has the ability to make anyone believe that he has a child inside him. He actually believed his ventriloquist trick would save him from the police,” said Seloba. The boy was discharged last Thursday. He is charged with housebreaking and is now in his parent’s custody until he appears in court again later this month. Khensani hospital is the same hospital where a woman was said to have given birth to an old man with white hair and a beard last year. Residents believed the “old man” instructed them to tie mealie meal bags around their arms and legs, so they did.
