Dear Mike,
I have a right to free speech and free thought, and I will express whatever view on whatever subject is of interest to me.

A South African living in the USA wrote a piece to me, which I really need to post, saying that Guerilla warfare is unbeatable. I have an interest in Military history, and I will state again, that I believe current analyses are wrong, and miss out a lot of information which show that guerilla warfare is winnable, and has been won before. And at times it amounted to virtually nothing. Guerilla warfare is nothing new. Its been going on for centuries. It is only since WWII that there is a new type of mythology which says Guerilla wars are unwinnable. But I will address this in another email.

I think Murtha is wrong, and I’ll say that again. And it appears to me you were in the Military. But it strikes me as fascinating that someone who perhaps was in the military expresses the views that you do. If I were your enemy I’d really be delighted. You sound like a defeatist and alarmist – the kind of man, every enemy wishes for – a person who will set off needless panic within your own ranks.

If you actually would read my analysis and my views, you would see, that I’m actually trying to give some sound advice which COULD SAVE LIVES OF AMERICANS ESPECIALLY OF SOLDIERS who are asked to fight a thankless war. If this war was fought firmly, with determination, then you would have far less casualties, and your soldiers could return home.

But what I say is all academic. After all who will listen?

But it does not matter, because I will say this to you: Even if you Americans retreat out of Iraq… the enemy will follow you. The enemy will follow you whereever you retreat to. The enemy is not finished with you, and when he sees you retreat, he will smell blood and it will only embolden him. He is already smelling blood… that is why he is going completely crazy in Iraq.

Your war, and your deaths will not end in Iraq.

And believe it or not, there is such a thing as ideology, and what happens to you, does matter to the rest of us who like to regard ourselves as a part of the Western world.

Again… as someone with some type of military experience, you strike me as very short-sighted that you cannot see such things.

And let me remind you buddy, that white South African soldiers fought against the Russians and Cubans in Angola… at the express request of the CIA and YOUR GOVERNMENT. And they did it, while PUBLICLY Americans and others hated them and undermined the country they stood for.

But you don’t hear us complaining about the cr*p your Govt dumped *US* in after some of our people had done your bidding and had paid for it with their lives. After we fought a fight at your Govt’s request, your Govt hands us over to our own enemies!! Nice hey?

Despite all this, many of us here actually support the USA, even though we are hard pressed to find a good reason why, except that we still have some mythical belief that the Western world stands for something and that the USA leads it.

But judging by people like Murtha and yourself, it appears to me, you stand for nothing, and you want to run away at the first sign of trouble. Do you realise that if your type of thinking gains ground, then it won’t be long before your country is on the ropes? Jan.
