[One of my neighbours lived in the USA for some years – in California in fact – and decided to return to S.Africa about 10 years ago. He’s one of these “artistic types”, and his views on life differ from mine. He really did not like living in the USA. I will reserve judgement since I have never been there, but hopefully, one day I will have reason enough to visit and see for myself.

I noticed that he was a pathalogical optimist, and normally there is little one can do to change the minds of such people. If their minds change, it will be a process which only they have control of.

Recently, my neighbour had some chats with me, and he made some sensible comments which shows that despite his optimism, and his desire to see only the good, that in fact, he does perceive that there is some trouble out there waiting for us in the future.

I did not save all his emails, but in a previous email he said to me that he had a theory of his own, that the reason why we have so much crime is because the blacks are “punishing us (whites)” for the “crimes we committed against them.”

I said to him that I have no problem with that line of thinking, but I thought it was a bit deeper than that. I thought the real game was to make life uncomfortable for us so that we would leave. And if you look at it, they have done a good job because somewhere between 1-1.4 million S.Africans have left this country.

I told him that most people who leave here cite two reasons, in this order of importance: (1) Crime – threatning them and their families (2) Jobs.

But… I’m not going to argue the point… The issue we BOTH agree on is that Crime is a clandestine act of aggression by Blacks against Whites. Although we do not agree on WHY, nor on what the end result is intended to be, we do agree that this is DELIBERATE, and it is aimed directly at us whites.

I told him that as far as I was concerned, I’m not buying into the white guilt nonsense, nor that White S.Africans are any more guilty of racism than anyone else. I told him that any fair study of African history will show that Black people in S.Africa, living under Apartheid, at its height in the 1960’s and 1970’s – were probably earning about 10 times what a black person was earning in ANY country to the north, including Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. The whole idea that Apartheid put blacks at a financial disadvantage is complete nonsense, and you will see poverty, among Blacks INCREASING UNDER ANC RULE. Yes, blacks were treated differently, but the end result was a healthier, more normal capitalist system which actually worked. ANC Socialism will result in much more suffering and poverty for the same blacks who thought that it would bring fantastic things to them. I have mentioned before, a recent study which showed that poverty AMONG POOR BLACKS has doubled since 1994. And wait… it WILL GET WORSE.

So I am well and truly over the whole white guilt bit. Its a load of nonsense, and should be removed from all further rational discussion about the future of this country.

Thanks for the stuff on politics… lots of food for thought. Don™t necessarily agree on everything but I like to always hear different views, and your straight talk is refreshing… the guy who said that he thinks the ANC is going to move into all areas of life and have a œmajority representation or whatever I think has a point… I™ve got a friend in who works for a KZN government department and he says the whites™ lives are made a misery so they can get them out … anyway, we™ll see wot happens…

The thing is: if the ANC does have a long-term goal of cramping whites then one must also have a long-term plan to have an escape hatch! That™s why a lucrative project is good “ money outside the country, etc. I would also like to own land sometime in the future but if it™s just going to be grabbed then what™s the point? But we™ll see…
