S.Africa: 15,000 Telkom workers to go on strike

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

S.Africa: 15,000 Telkom workers to go on strike

[It is strike season again – strikes everywhere. Jan]

THE strike by about 2 000 Telkom workers in the Eastern Cape as part of a national stayaway will take place as planned today, according to the Communication Workers™ Union and Solidarity.

Union leaders said this week™s protest could paralyse the country™s telecommunications as Telkom technical staff and telephone operators stayed away from work.

œThe working conditions of Telkom workers have increasingly become worse. Our demand is for a just and equitable distribution of gain-sharing without any conditions, said CWU national spokesman Mfanakuthi Sithebe.

More than 15 000 Telkom workers in all provinces are expected to take part in the strike, starting today with a protest at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. Sithebe said the workers who gathered in Pretoria would then march to Telkom™s head office to hand over a memorandum to the public utility™s chief executive.

Workers in all the provinces would hold pickets at all Telkom centres to disrupt operations.

Sithebe said the two unions had decided to go ahead with the action despite a revised offer by Telkom on profit-sharing and service standards.

Telkom human resources head Charlotte Mokoena confirmed that negotiations with the unions had broken down after labour turned down their revised offer, which included improved long-service awards, compression of grades, and increased gain-sharing by more than 400 per cent for the lowest-paid workers.

This was made on condition that no worker would go on strike today, Mokoena said.

Sithebe denied that negotiations between the unions and Telkom had taken place on Friday.

œWe were surprised to find that Sacu (the SA Communications Union), which has always been in agreement with the company and in opposition to our demands, was also part of the meeting.

He said they had refused to be part of the meeting as the demands of the workers were in conflict with those of Sacu.

CWU, which is affiliated to Cosatu, and Solidarity had entered into a Coalition of Telkom Unions to represent more than 50% of Telkom workers.
