Johannesburg: 8 gunmen, with AK-47s in Cash heist

[Another successful cash-in-transit heist. Jan]

Three security guards were held up by armed robbers in a cash heist in Jeppestown on Monday afternoon, Johannesburg police said.

A silver and maroon BMW drove into the back of a Coin security vehicle at the corner of Anderson and Kruger streets, said Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht.

Shots were fired through the vehicle’s windscreen and three guards were ordered out the van.

Eight gunmen, armed with AK-47s and R-5 rifles, assaulted the security guards and ordered them to open cash boxes.

The robbers got away in a Nissan bakkie with an undisclosed amount of money.

The guards sustained minor injuries, Engelbrecht said. – Sapa
