I have discussed possible election rigging in S.Africa on a number of occasions in the past. But the newspapers have broken a big story. They call is a “row” – but in reality, it is the first hard proof of ANC election rigging.

Here in S.Africa the ANC passed a law forcing people to register for the elections. If you do not have a valid id book, then you can’t vote.

Helen Zille, from the Democratic Alliance, used her cell phone to photograph these green id books at the ANC information table on election day – 1st March 2006.

The question is: Why was the ANC handing out ID books?

Registered voters much come and vote and they must bring valid id books with them. So why does the ANC have a whole table full of ID books? Is it handing out fake id books to people who are not registered to vote?

This was the headline in The Citizen newspaper.

Here is the photo she took. It clearly shows the small green id books at the table.

There have been many allegations of election rigging in the past, including intimidation. But it is hard to prove it. This is the first photographic evidence I have seen of irregularities. Jan]
