[We have had a lot of rain this summer. Its been the most abnormal rainy season I’ve ever experienced in Johannesburg. For weeks now we’ve had rain almost every day. It is amazing. Johannesburg has never been this cloudy.

On my way home from work I have discovered that it is a bad idea driving on the M1 highway when it is raining heavily because there is a spot which becomes badly flooded and one ends up in quite a hellish traffic jam. So on rainy days I take other routes.

On this particular day, I took a route through Braamfontein. It was raining quite a lot, and the cars were jam packed together.

Suddenly, behind me appeared this mini-bus taxi. All the cars were packed together like sardines and we could hardly move. There was not an inch to spare. Then behind me came this f**k*** bastard, who just hooted, and hooted and f**k** hooted. First of all it was a normal taxi, and not an ambulance, etc. But he just sat behind me, hooting and hooting and hooting. I really felt like climbing out my car and engaging in some serious road rage… Grrrr. But I did nothing. And so he hooted impatiently for minutes. Then, as traffic crawled forward slowly, we came to a spot where another road joined the one I was in. This taxi which was doing all the hooting had nobody in it (as far as I could tell) except for this impatient bastard of a driver… He then cut across the left side of me where this other road joined and proceeded to push in in front of other cars. As he did so, he started with his same sh*t all over again. The cars in front of me were jam-packed… and he would just sit there hooting and hooting and hooting at them too.

I managed, despite the rain to take these two photos of this bastard as he raced past me and started shoving his way in in front of the other cars. And the beauty of it all, as he drove past me, was that I then saw that it had the ANC insignia and colours on it.

In this close-up, you can see the ANC logo, and you can even make out the number plate of this absolute roadhog, bastard of a pig: JWL339GP. In a country where there are so many roadhogs, and so many inconsiderate drivers, I have never yet come across anyone like this before. This is a maniac’s maniac who sent my blood pressure flying through the roof.

Folks, if any of you come across roadhogs, and see these taxis breaking the law. Feel free to send me the pictures and the acompanying story. These taxis cross red lights with impunity as a normal part of driving.

I have seen things at times but not always had my camera at the ready. One day I saw a white woman lying bleeding on the pavement in Johannesburg being helped by medics. It looked as if she had been hit by one of these taxis. I’m sure that many of you, like me, have had to jump out of the way of these buggers even when one is walking across a zebra crossing because they just don’t care for human life. Jan]
