S.Africa: New type of Hijacking with Shotguns

[Here is another report from eBlockWatch. This is happening not far from where I live. I know the avenues he is talking of with the big old trees. Date Reported: 2006-01-27 08:44:09 Incident Date: 2006-01-27 09:00:00 Reported By: ANDRE Type of Incident: Car Hijack Incident Area: GAUTENG, JOHANNESBURG, Description: Some old suburbs bordering Louis Botha Avenue in JHB (Houghton, Norwood, Orchards, Highlands North, Orange Grove) is rife with hi-jacking and attempted high-jacking, typically performed by two to three men, armed with shotguns, and a driving a stolen vehicle with no number plates. They would park is a leafy street, in shadows – staking out a particular address after having (local?) observers mark the intended spot using either empty fast food wrappers or upright cans of cool drink on the street / pavement. Maybe this behaviour has been noticed before? As the intended victims enters their driveway, they would drive up, screech to a halt in the street and using shotguns proceed with their trade. I can personally testify to having heard of three incidents in just my street in three months, with one person shot to date. I personally was an intended victim just last week and if I did not (purely by chance!) reverse after entering my driveway to go do something elsewhere at the spurt of a moment (i.e. broke my normal pattern) – I would have been a highjack victim. The intended high-jackers where therefore left standing next to their car whilst I reversed past them at speed. This did not prevent them from aiming their shotguns at me and re-cocking their (already loaded) weapons, thereby ejecting live shells – hopefully with their fingerprints on.. Personally I would love to live in a free and proud country where laws are obeyed and criminals are behind bars. Instead we all break the rules by flouting road rules, removing licence plates and by living behind bars. Making the criminal element the proud and free component of our society. Sad.
