S.Africa: Man, 85, robbed & murdered in Farm house

Johannesburg – An 85-year-old man was found bound and murdered at 06:30 on Monday in a farmhouse in Devon, said East Rand police. Superintendent Andy Pieke said Gert Hattingh, who lived alone in the farmhouse, was found in the kitchen by a domestic worker. His hands and feet had been tied with rope. The cause of death has not been established as there appeared to be no visible marks on the body. Police believe his attackers gained entry by breaking open the wooden front door. A lock on a gate leading to the farmhouse was cut with a bolt-cutter. Hattingh’s firearm, cash, and a television set were missing.
