[This is quite funny. This Govt Official is making derogatory statements about Coloured (Mixed-race) people. Now its kicked up a furore. As I have said, many times, everybody is racist – including Blacks – and it is quite a natural part of human life. It is interesting to watch the outcry over this. I am sick of political correctness and welcome anything that is said frankly and openly by anyone else. Jan] Cape Town mayor Nomaindia Mfeketo has ordered an investigation into the controversial website run by her media adviser Blackman Ngoro. Ngoro made headlines earlier this week when it emerged he was the author of an article on the site claiming Africans were “culturally superior” to coloured people, and that coloureds would “die a drunken death” if they did not undergo an “ideological transformation”. Mfeketo announced on Friday that the internal probe would begin on Monday, and would be concluded in 14 days. It would look at whether the website was intended to cause harm, and whether Ngoro, who is currently on leave, had used council resources in running the site. Earlier on Friday DA provincial leader Theuns Botha said the African National Congress leadership in the Western Cape should insist Mfeketo dismiss Ngoro. He said the DA was “disgusted and outraged” by the mayoris “blase” attitude to the outcry over Ngoro. “The mayor has reportedly distanced herself from Ngorois statements and said the matter is now closed. I assure the mayor that the matter is definitely not closed,” Botha said. “The mayor’s attitude is highly irresponsible, and sends a message to the people of Cape Town that her leadership is not bothered by the hurt and damage caused by Ngorois statements.” The South African Jewish Board of Deputies on Friday added its voice to criticisms of Ngoro’s views. Board chairman Michael Bagraim said he agreed with the SA Human Rights Commission that Ngoro’s statements were harmful to society and undesirable. “Ngoro’s claim that black people are ‘culturally superior’ to coloured ones and his intimation that all coloured people are drunkards constitutes outright racial stereotyping of a particularly offensive nature,” Bagraim said. – Sapa Source: Independent Online (IOL) |
