S.Africa: Police seal off ANC HQ from media

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

S.Africa: Police seal off ANC HQ from media

[All hush hush on the ANC side… in the aftermath of the Shabir Shaik trial, which could have serious repurcussions for Vice President Zuma. Jan]

Johannesburg – On Monday, in an unusual move, the police advanced on Luthuli House, the African National Congress’s Johannesburg headquarters, to keep the media away.

About 20 vehicles were used to form a wall between them and Luthuli House while, normally, safety measures here are confined to the entrance of the building.

The ANC held its weekly national working committee (NWC) here on Monday, and the media was hoping to get more information on the possible repercussions of the Schabir Shaik guilty verdict on the future of deputy president Jacob Zuma.

Everyone was denied access to the building and the Johannesburg metro police hastily formed a dense security cordon to restrict the group of reporters and photographers to the opposite side of the street.

Later, the street was also closed off to traffic and about 20 vehicles from the police service, the metro police, the VIP protection unit and the police’s public-order unit were called into action.

Threatened with arrest

Pedestrians and hawkers, however, remained undisturbed and could move freely past the building.

A police captain even threatened some reporters with arrest when they approached him to find out why such extraordinary security measures were in force.

“We are going to clash soon,” he warned.

“If you cross that line, you will be arrested,” he said, referring to a police ribbon that had been put up a little while earlier.

Later in the afternoon, Smuts Ngonyama, the ANC’s chief spokesperson, stepped out of the building and asked the media to leave.

Just a ‘normal working day’

“You know the ANC has a lot of respect for the media, but you are now causing a slight security problem,” he said.

“I can guarantee you this is a normal working day for the ANC, and if we wish to share something with the public, we will organise a media conference.”

Ngonyama didn’t want to disclose who had been attending the NWC meeting, neither did he want to discuss the agenda.

“We are first going to work through Judge Hilary Squires’ judgment thoroughly and then we will decide on what to do next.”
