Zimbabwe is making considerable progress in preparation for the 2010 World Cup to be hosted in neighbouring South Africa, Zimbabwe's Herald Online reports.
Various ministries on Wednesday presented projects to the Sport, Tourism, Image and Communication Taskforce in anticipation of the “economic windfall” anticipated for the country's sport and cultural industries.
Projects included the construction of two stadiums in Beitbridge and the resort town of Victoria Falls to provide practice venues for visiting teams.
Education Minister Aeneas Chigwedere said incentives should be put in place for the corporate world to take part in the preparations.
Upgrades to the countries roads, sewer disposal systems and the construction and rehabilitation of stadiums were also in the pipeline in anticipation of the soccer extravaganza.
Construction to transform the image of Beitbridge town, the country's busiest entry point, had been progressing well but the money allocated for this programme had already been exhausted, he said. Similar construction programmes would take place at other border posts countrywide “but in a small way” compared to Beitbridge.
