Johannesburg – An armoured vehicle was used to smash through a group of minibus taxis that were blocking a road in Kempton Park on Wednesday, police said. Superintendent Eugene Opperman said about 50 taxi drivers, who were fighting with other taxi associations over routes, blocked Pretoria Road near the Kempton Park taxi rank at about 15:30. “The taxi drivers refused to adhere to police instructions to open the road, so an armoured Nyala vehicle was used to push about six of the vehicles out of the way,” Opperman said. The taxis were extensively damaged. “All the other taxi drivers ran for their vehicles when they saw what action police had taken,” Opperman said. “We will not tolerate this king of lawlessness.
