S.Africa: Minister of Health needs a crash course in Common Sense

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

S.Africa: Minister of Health needs a crash course in Common Sense

[This is an editorial from a local newspaper. Look at what the Editor has to say about our insane AIDS policies. The Minister of Health, under the ANC, has always been a complete joke. But I don’t care. Let them kill themselves. Jan]

Somebody with influence needs to take Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang firmly aside and convince her of the need to take crash courses in public relations and common sense. She also should be advised to keep up to date with developments in her own department.

Her aggressive statements last week about the HIV/Aids pandemic did the government no favours – in fact they further confused people and damaged the repair work that had been done to its already dented image over HIV/Aids.

Despite the critical importance of finding ways to fight HIV/Aids the minister appeared in a media conference to be unaware that her own department already was treating 42 000 people with anti-retrovirals (ARVs). After being hastily updated on this fact by a member of her own staff she bluntly stated that she did not know “how we jumped from 28 000 to 42 000”.

Such confusion in the department is alarming. This undermines its stated, if belated, ARV roll-out goals.

It is true that many issues surrounding HIV/Aids are far from simple. The minister is correct in stating that nutrition is an important part in the patient’s fight against HIV/Aids and that people should be fully informed about the possible side-effects of the use of ARVs – so that they can make their own choices.

However, she continues to appear to be out of step with thought in the international medical fraternity and even her own department. While confused about her own patient numbers, the minister also said she was not bound by the ARV targets set for Southern Africa by the World Health Organisation, having not been part of its target-setting.

It is puzzling why this should be so. Surely it would make sense for the government to get fully on board with international plans, in the interests of both the country and the subcontinent.
