S.Africa: Armed Guards robbed in cash heist!
[Only in S.Africa! Jan] Johannesburg – A security vehicle conveying cash from a shop at Middeldrift, near Eshowe, was robbed of “a couple of thousand rand” during a heist, said police on Tuesday. The car was between Nkandla and Eshowe. A red bakkie [truck] came from the opposite direction and sideswiped the armed minibus on the right, near the rear end, causing it to overturn. A gang, armed with handguns and automatic rifles jumped from the bakkie and demanded the guards hand over their firearms and cash. Police spokesperson Tienkie van Vuuren said: “The guards remained in the car, whereupon the suspects started smashing the drivers side window with a large hammer…” ‘Guard robbed of his gun’ When they did not succeed, they smashed the roof of the vehicle to gain access to the guards. One security guard was robbed of his handgun and automatic rifle. “The suspects started cutting open the rear right side of the armed vehicle to gain access to the safe area. “They then took the cash and fled in another vehicle, which arrived later.” The bakkie was left behind. Police later established it had been stolen in the Durban area the previous day. No shots were fired during the robbery. The security guards had minor cuts and bruises when their vehicle overturned. Anyone with information can phone the police crime stop number: 08600 10111 or the Richards Bay serious and violent crime unit. Edited by Andiswa Mesatywa Source: News24.Com |
