Jan] Johannesburg – The father of a murdered Germiston man told Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday how he found his son’s body in the Knights area in February last year. Ernand Lourens said he went to search for his son, Anton, after he received a call on February 27 and was told his son and his girlfriend had been hijacked in Germiston. Lourens was giving evidence in the trial of Anthony Leukes, Jerald Kubonie and Juandre Coquillon. They all pleaded not guilty to a total of 14 charges including murder, rape, indecent assault, robbery and kidnapping. Security guard searches the area Lourens said he later found out the woman had been raped and his son attacked. Lourens, his wife, a friend and a security guard searched the area, where he found the body of his 19-year-old only child. Anton had stab wounds in the stomach and face. The court heard that Lourens tried to resuscitate his son until an ambulance arrived, but the paramedics had declared Anton dead. Marcus Maapola, a security guard working that night, later confirmed finding Anton Lourens’ body. Leukes, Kubonie ‘tried to sell stolen items’ He had become suspicious after finding the car in which the couple were travelling. The car was stuck in mud and abandoned. Two other State witnesses told Judge John Horn on Wednesday that Leukes and Kubonie tried to sell them items allegedly stolen from Anton’s car. One witness bought a watch for R200, while another refused to buy golf clubs. The case now enters a trial within a trial to determine if correct procedures were followed during a police identity parade on March 23 2004. Advocate Charles Mqushulu, representing Kubonie, argued that his client was not treated correctly during the ID parade. Edited by Andiswa Mesatywa Source: News24.Com |
