I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

S.Africa: Girl"s murderer: Cannabis relaxed me
[Dagga = Cannabis. Jan] The alleged killer of Cape Flats schoolgirl Sasha-Leigh Crook on Tuesday told the Cape High Court that smoking dagga made him feel “relaxed and without any cares”. Moegamat Yusuf Isaacs was under cross-examination by prosecutor Christenus van der Vijver after acting judge Tandaswa Ndita on Monday ruled him not guilty on a charge of raping Sasha-Leigh. However, Isaacs is still on trial for her alleged murder. Isaacs, led by his senior counsel Dirk Uijs, told the court his mother visited him as he sat handcuffed on a chair in investigator Anna Cilliers’s office. During the visit he and his mother had wept bitterly over his arrest for the alleged rape and murder of the girl, and his mother had prayed for him while she rubbed his back. Isaacs’s defence to the murder charge is an outright denial of any knowledge of it. Taking him under cross-examination, Van der Vijver told him: “I don’t believe a single word that you have spoken in the witness stand, and I will show why as we proceed. “I think on the day Sasha-Leigh died, something terrible happened, and I want to give you an opportunity to show remorse. “I want to give you an opportunity to say, ‘I’m sorry, I was under the influence of drugs’.” Isaacs admitted he had smoked “ganja”, another name for dagga, on the day Sasha-Leigh was abducted from the home of her grandparents. He told the court he had been “heavy on mandrax” before he had met his wife, but that he had only smoked “ganja” the day of Sasha-Leigh’s disappearance. Van der Vijver said it was obvious that Isaacs could remember “everything that day”. Then he asked: “What is it that you don’t remember?” Isaacs said he had been able to recall a lot of detail while in custody. Asked who had informed him while in custody that Sasha-Leigh had been stabbed, he first said an Inspector Stoffels had told him, then said it could have been an Inspector Naidoo. Later, when he said it was in fact Naidoo, Isaacs was grilled at length about why he had named Stoffels, if he was now so certain it was Naidoo. It is alleged Sasha-Leigh was abducted on July 6, 2003, while playing in the garden at her grandparents’ home while they prepared to take her to a children’s party. The hearing continues on Wednesday. – Sapa Source: Independent Online (IOL) |
