US Army orders 148 South African armoured vehicles

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

US Army orders 148 South African armoured vehicles

[This is good to see. I mentioned this a while back and wondered why the USA isn’t making use of some of our technology in their fight against terror… They’re going to be needing it!!! A photo of the kind of vehicle they have bought, can be seen on the URL’s below. Jan]

The US Army has placed an order for 148 South African-built armoured vehicles.

A British defence internet daily on Thursday said the US Army’s Communication and Electronics Command, on behalf of its Programme Manager for Close Combat Systems, has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems of Canada a contract with a potential value not to exceed R468-million for 148 RG-31 medium mine protected vehicles.

Defence Systems Daily (DSD) said included in this price was R18-million in spare parts.

“Under this contract, General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada will provide the programme management and logistics support while BAE Land Systems OMC of South Africa will manufacture the vehicles,” DSD reported.

The contract was signed through the Canadian Commercial Corporation, a Crown Agency of the Canadian Government.

Final contract definition and pricing is expected to be completed by April 2005. Deliveries will occur from April to December 2005.

Nine RG-31s were previously supplied to the US Army in 2003 and 2004 and have seen wide service.

The Canadian Army has deployed three RG-31s as part of its contribution to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

In addition, the vehicles are extensively used by Nato forces in the former Yugoslavia as well as the United Nations in Lebanon, Georgia, Syria and Kosovo.

It was not clear from the report why the order was not placed directly with the Boksburg-based OMC and why a circuitous route was followed in the acquisition process.

The RG-31 MK3 Mine Protected APC is a 4×4 armoured vehicle with a combat mass of 8 400 kg.

The all-steel, welded armour, monocoque hull protects the crew against small arms fire and anti-tank mine detonations.

In standard APC configuration, this air-conditioned vehicle carries a crew of 10 (driver plus 9).

A large rear door and two front doors ensure speedy and easy exit and entrance. With automatic transmission, permanent 4×4 drive and a two speed (high and low) transfer case the RG-31 MK3 is easy to drive, both on and off road.

With a modular interior layout the vehicle can be configured as an APC, command vehicle, ambulance, surveillance vehicle and for many other uses.

RG-31 is the mine-protected vehicle of choice of peacekeepers.
