Last night the following letter was printed in the Cape Argus: Recently it was reported that the black mayor of Cape Town, Nomainia Mfeketo, had “turned white” according to her spokeswoman, Leonora de Souza-Zilwa! This occurred when she was supposedly informed that BigBay plots were being sold at discounted prices to BEE* mates who were immediately putting them on the market again at inflated prices. It subsequently turned out that she already knew that this was taking place! Being white already, I have turned red with rage at all the skulduggery going on in the ANC-controlled City Council, with land being dished out at many millions of rands less than the market values. I am seriously considering leaving my birthplace, Cape Town, which has degenerated into a vast slum of millions of vagrants and out of work poor people living in tiny shacks scattered all over what was once a proud city. Instead of the City Council looking after these people, it would appear that the black elite are being enriched to the poor’s detriment. Shame. M A.
