Johannesburg – A woman was killed by a stray bullet while doing her washing in Loate, Mabopane outside Pretoria on Sunday.

Apparently a group of men were fighting near the place the 40-year-old woman was doing her washing.

The men shot at each other and a stray bullet hit the woman, killing her.

Police arrested a 45-year-old man.

In a separate incident, a man died in Brits after he was stabbed in the neck during an argument with another man, police said.

Inspector Thabo Makhafolo said on Monday the man had been arrested and would appear in the Brits magistrate’s court soon.

In yet another incident, a 30-year-old woman was raped on Sunday in an abandoned shed in Maboloka, Letlhabile.

Police said the 35-year-old suspect, a Zimbabwean immigrant, threatened her with a knife and raped her.

The man was arrested after being identified by the victim’s neighbour. He would also appear in the Brits magistrate’s court.

From Mpumalanga it was reported that an elderly woman had been strangled with a jersey.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Sibongile Nkosi said a 70-year-old woman was found strangled at her house at Mayflower between Ermelo and Oshoek border post.

The killer or killers apparently forced the door to her house open during the night.

Police suspected she might have been raped.

The woman’s body was found on Sunday morning by a neighbour who began to worry about her.

Police said no arrests had been made and the motive for the murder was unknown.
